Tropical Modernism

An artistic intervention by Veronika Kellndorfer as part of the exhibition - Lina Bo Bardi 100 - in the Architekturmuseum of the Museum Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.

“Tropical Modernism” reflects the open structures of Lina Bo Bardi’s architecture and transfers them into an arrangement of transparent und opaque elements.

Kellndorfer’s photograph “Tree House” taken this year in Sao Paulo at the Casa de Vidro opens her two-part intervention and is installed at the entrance of the Museum, a silk-screen print, especially created for the exhibition shows the pattern of Casa de Vidro burnt in glass. The intervention finds a concise continuity in monumental printed glass panels, each 210x210cm and built in the darkened window front of the museum. Distributed by the length of 20 meters, the four, colored and backlit silk-screen prints on glass show, the amorphous forms of the openings cut in the exposed concrete walls, the windows of the SESC Pompeia Factory, remodeled by Lina Bo Bardi.

Opening: November 13th 2014, 7pm
Exhibition duration: 11.13.2014 - 02.22.2015
Pinakothek der Moderne, Barer Straße 40, 80333 München

mazarazzoMade by... Feito por Brasileiros

Exhibition in São Paulo with works by over one hundred artists and book launch to celebrate the inspiring power of Brazil

A creative invasion brings back to life pavilions, hallways and gardens of the old Umberto Primo Hospital, known as Matarazzo Hospital.

With Made by...Feito por Brasileiros, the hospital is turned into a public square space dedicated to art, open to all, with the purpose to highlight the power of creativity in Brazil nowadays. In parallel to the Biennale of São Paulo, the exhibition gathers major names of the contemporary art scene such as Joana Vasconcelos, Tony Oursler, Francesca Woodman and Kenny Scharf, alongside with acclaimed names of Brazilian contemporary art such as Tunga, Henrique Oliveira, Carlito Carvahlosa, Beatriz Milhazes, Nuno Ramos and Vik Muniz.

Veronika Kellndorfer presents new works related to her research about the Archeology of Tropical Modernism.

She combines a printed tissue displaying the woven sunscreens that protect the plants at the Sito de Burle Marx with a glass sculpture showing a curtain behind the window to the yard of Lina Bo Bardi's Casa de Vidro.

September 9 - October 18, 2014
Tue - Sun | 10am - 4pm
